Snap Shot of the HHD

The handheld device is small computer so light than can be held in the palm or kept in the pocket. It was previously known as the Personal Devices for Assistance (PDA) which is primarily used as time regulator, directory, daily appointment organizer .. etc and can be connected to a PC.

Many HHD producers are in the list of which: Palm, Toshiba, Sanyo and others. The price one device varies between US$100-1000 depending on the characteristics each contains.

The characteristics of a HHD can determine the size of the device, its weight, monitor, memory capacity, battery type and duration and simple usage.

Main Components of HHD:

The Figure Below shows the features the main body of the HHD which is a small computer having a small monitor and inner parts (memory and processor) and they are in turn have different minute sizes.

The figure also demonstrates the components that the user has to understand before operating the device. They are:

  1.      Jog Dial Navigator.

Used to travel between the icons to select and operate. It can be used as instead of the indicator.

  2.      Scroll Button

  3.      Application Buttons

Buttons used to operate specific programmes such as the daily task menu “To Do List”.

  4.      Monitor

To display the data and stored programmes. It is touch sensitive.

  5.      Chip

  6.      Lead Indicator

The Figure Above shows other parts of the HHD device.  They are:

1.    The Stylus

The indicator or the ‘electronic writer’.

It is an element used for writing and entering data in the device. It should always be kept in the assigned socket when not needed. The indicator can be used by pressing it mildly on the buttons to enter the data and moving here and there as will be explained later.

It is not recommended to work on the device with any other element because it might scratch and destroy the monitor.

2.      Power Button

The on-and-off button in pressing it for a short time. It also controls the degree of monitor lighting in pressing it for a longer time. It should be noted that the device shuts off automatically for a no operation period for a specific time. Should the operator wishes to reuse the device he/she should repress the power button.

3.      Memory Stick Slot

The stand-by memory a spare memory of the system. The device will not properly operate incase this memory is unavailable or misfit.

4.      Memory Stick Access Indicator

The Battery:

The battery used in HHD is identical to that used in mobile telephones. It is inserted inside the device and is recommended to touch or remove from its place for any reason. The operator should always notice the charging level because entirely empty battery may lead to loss of data stored in the internal memory. To sever such discrepancy, the following measurement should be observed:

  •  Make sure the battery is charged. Notice the indicator.

  •  Use the charger to recharge the battery in daily basis.

Memory Stick:

An outsource memory added to the device. Make sure that is it properly placed inside the device and should not be pulled out. In case it pumped out, it should be gently replace.

Protective Soft Cover:

The protective cover soft leather cover to protect the monitor from smashing, dust and dirt.
