Updating the Lists of Buildings

A new task was vested on the surveyors in the 2003 Census Project who carried out the cartography updating. That was to collect specific data about the buildings during their work: the type, ownership and number of stories of the buildings, and also to take count of the housing units and specific particulars of the households such as name of householder, nationality and household members.

At a later of stage of the Preparatory Phase when the Crew-leaser commenced the Establishment Census, he/she was requested to re-update the housing and household data so as to ensure obtaining the most recent information that can be used in monitoring the enumerators’ performance. To facilitate the Crew-leasers’ work, it was decide to use the HHD in that operation in lieu of the paper questionnaire.

Updating Method

Loading all building and housing units data relevant to the Crew-leader designated sector in an HHD. The Crew-leader enters the block number he/she wishes to work on. The HHD will search for the block number in the saved data. If recognized, then a list of all the building and housing units appears on the monitor. When updating, the Crew-leader enters the building number. The previous information will be displayed on the monitor and he/she can do the necessary updating.

As mentioned before, this information will be downloaded in daily bases and sent to the main office in MONE.
