Marital Status

Never Married

Is an unmarried individual (male or female) and has never married before.

Married

Is a person (male or female) married by means of a legal bond associated with a wedding ceremony (nuptial), regardless he/she has been with his/her spouse at the census moment (reference time). Thus, the marriage legal bond is insufficient to consider a person a married person.

Divorced

Is a person (male or female) who terminated his/her marital status with a divorce, provided that he/she has not married again and he/she is still bachelor until the census moment (reference time). Otherwise he/she will be deemed married.

Widow

Is a person (male or female) who lost his/her spouse by death and has not married again.
